Rio carnival with all it's splendor in brazil - NSFW

What is Rio Carnival?

Once a pagan celebration in ancient Rome, Carnival in Rio de Janeiro is now considered one of the greatest shows on Earth. Rio is known as the cultural capital of Brazil and was the capital from 1822 to 1960, when it was moved to Brasilia. The first festivals of Rio date back to 1723.

The famous carnival parade has been going on since the 1930s. The parade starts Sunday evening and continues into early morning Monday of the celebration. Until 1984, when it was moved to Av. Presidente Vargas, the parade took place at Praca Onze. In 1984 the parade finally found its permanent home, the Sambadrome. The Sambadrome is a large structure that was built in the downtown area, which includes several buildings that make a circular open area in the middle. In the off season, the buildings of the Sambadrome are used as classrooms for the local public schools.

The Tweel - radical new wheel technology

|
0 COMMENTS
No more air valves,No more air compressors at Petrol Pumps,No more flat tires in the middle of long drives

Michelin has showcased a potentially disruptive technology with significant ramifications for the future for mobility: an airless, integrated tyre and wheel combination dubbed the TWEEL (i.e. Tyre/WhEEL) . The Tweel promises performance levels beyond those possible with conventional pneumatic technology. The first commercial applications of the Tweel will be in lower-speed, lower-weight vehicles such as the iBOT mobility device and Segway's Concept Centaur. Designed by Segway-inventor Dean Kamen, the iBOT mobility device has the ability to climb stairs and navigate uneven terrain, offering mobility freedom impossible with traditional wheelchairs. Additionally, Segway's Concept Centaur, a prototype that applies self-balancing technology to a four-wheel device, has also been equipped with Tweel to increase its performance potential.

Beyond these first real-world applications, Michelin has additional projects for Tweel on construction skidsteers and a variety of military vehicles.

Worlds Largest Champagne Fountain

|
0 COMMENTS
At 43,000 glasses and counting, an attempt is underway of the free-flowing bubbly to break the world record for the ‘Largest Champagne Fountain’ in the Wijnegem shopping center near Antwerp — we’re assuming Belgium.

The 22.9 foot (7 meter) high pyramid of glasses weighing 19,590 pounds (8,750 kilos) will attempt to break the record held by Luuk Broos, director of Maison Luuk-Chalet Fontain.

Luuk’s 56-story champagne fountain was made from 30,856 traditional long-stem glasses at the Steigenberger Kurhaus Hotel in Scheveningen, Netherlands on December 30 1999.

How Oscar statues are made

Each statuette takes 40 hours of work to make. A pantograph is used to add a serial number to the base of every Oscar.About 55 to 60 trophies are made every year under tight security by RS Owens.

Each Oscar is dipped in electrically-charged bins of molten copper, nickel, silver and 24-carat gold and then lacquered to a blinding shine.Every Oscar is closely inspected for defects - if it is not perfect, it is sliced in half and used for scrap.

Lady Figure on Mars Just a Rock

The Lady of Mars

The idea that there may be life on Mars has been around for centuries, but the theory got a dubious boost from recently released photos of the surface of Mars (taken by the NASA robot Spirit) apparently showing a human-like figure. Several Internet sites have glommed onto the image and suggested the figure could be alive.

But what is it? Just a rock, astronomers say. Read Full Story »

Mystery photo of 'life on Mars'

A magnified version of the picture, posted on the internet, appears to some to show what resembles a human form(similar to a female) among a crop of rocks.

While some bloggers have dismissed the image as a trick of light, others say it is evidence of an alien presence.

The image is a recent Nasa posting of the Spirit's landing in 2004.

The Lion Zoo in China

|
0 COMMENTS
The scenes witnessed at Badaltearing Safari Park in China are rapidly becoming a normal day out for many Chinese families.

The zoo also encourages visitors to "fish" for lions using live chickens as bait. For just $2, giggling visitors tie terrified chickens onto bamboo rods and dangle them in front of the lions, just as a cat owner might tease their pet with a toy.

The tourists were then herded onto buses and driven through the lions' compound to watch an equally cruel spectacle. The buses have specially designed chutes down which you can push live chickens and watch as they are torn to shreds.

Once again, children are encouraged to take part in the slaughter.

Compilation illusions

An illusion is an image or representation believed to be real in our mind’s eye, but that is not actually real. In other words, because of the way our eyes and brain work, our eyes are tricked into seeing something that is not really there or into seeing something happen that did not really happen. Illusions can be very deceiving, and magicians use illusions to their advantage to make the audience believe that something happened by magic. Optical illusions tell a story about how our eyes and brain work together to allow us to see.

Two British anglers waded waist deep into a river to land a 100-year-old monster fish weighing over 35 stone - after battling with it for over an hour.

Nick Calleya, 36, from Cubert in Cornwall and George Carstairs from Scotland landed the 500lb white Sturgeon while angling from a boat in the Fraser River in British Columbia in Canada.

The 10ft-long giant was snared using a rod and line with salmon eggs as bait.

10 - Million - Dollar Bill issued in Zimbabwe

In the leadership of Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe now is the world's highest inflation rate, officially estimated at 25,000 percent annually (the real inflation may be closer to 150,000 percent).

The new 10-million note is the equivalent of about $4 at the dominant black market exchange rate.

In an effort to end chronic cash shortages and long, chaotic lines at banks and automated teller machines, the bank will issue the new notes on Friday along with 1-million and 5-million dollar bills, said Reserve Bank Governor Gideon Gono.

The highest existing note, introduced last month, is 750,000 Zimbabwe dollars.

A hamburger at an ordinary cafe costs about 15 million Zimbabwe dollars ($6). But that price has trebled this month amid shortages of bread, meat and most other basic goods
