Fish Operated for Hernia

Carla the fish has had a life-saving operation after developing a hernia.

The 10-inch-long angelfish was laid out on an operating table while a vet and two assistants carried out the unusual surgery.

After being anaesthatised the exotic fish had a tube placed in her mouth and water pumped through her body and out her gills to enable her to breathe.

Vet Sue Thornton repaired the stomach condition using a scalpel, a needle and forceps during the £500 operation.

After being stitched up and brought round the plucky fish was kept under close observation before she went on to make a full recovery.

Carla has been a resident at the London Aquarium for 10 years and staff decided to try and save her rather than put her to sleep when she developed the hernia. via

Photographs of a giant spider eating a bird in an Australian garden have stunned wildlife experts.

The pictures show the spider with its long black legs wrapped around the body of a dead bird suspended in its web.

The startling images were reportedly taken in Atheron, close to Queensland's tropical north.

These girls are trainers, and apparently tigers love to play in the water.

Amazing pictures show staff at The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species, or TIGERS, taking a leisurely dip with the 90kg beasts.

The South Carolina wildlife centre has been showing off its new custom-made 450L pool, complete with a glass wall for public viewing.

While an average housecat may despise the thought of a cool dip, tigers are the most adept swimmers of all the big cats and even have webbing between their toes to assist in paddling.

But it's not just for show — the tiger devotees are serious when they say the swimming exercises are an important part of the animals' training.











Female big cat trainers have found a unique way to bond with their tigers — don a bikini and join them for a swimming pool frolic.

Cute Monkey waiters in Japan

The local hangout just north of Tokyo employs a pair of Japanese monkeys called Yat-chan and Fuku-chan to serve their customers.

The younger of the two, Fuku-chan, usually begins the first shift and is quick to hand out customers a hot towel to help them clean their hands before they order their first drinks.

Fuku-chan, who is four, has only two years experience under his furry belt and his work load is limited to hot towels.



Both monkeys are well appreciated by customers who tip them with boiled soya-beans to enjoy during their down time.

Kaoru Otsuka, who owns the restaurant in Utsunomiya, Japan, said he did not teach the sake-serving monkey its waiting skills.

Mr Otsuka claims Yatchan watched him serving customers and remembered how to do it.

"Lots of customers come to look at the monkey. He works everyday," said Mr Otsuka.

The simian, called Yatchan, is also used to serve hot towels to the grateful customers who give him soya beans as tips.

Mr Otsuka said the monkey also likes fruit, but was not fond of the sushi that the restaurant specialises in.

Japanese Leaf Chapel - Special for wedding

The chapel is formed by 2 leaves - one glass, one steel - which have seemingly fluttered to the ground. The glass leaf with its delicate lace pattern motif emulates a pergola and the structure holding it up reminds one of the veins of a leaf which slowly become thinner the further they get from the central stem.


The white steel leaf, perforated with 4700 holes, each of which hold an acrylic lens, is similar to bride's veil made of delicate lace. Light filters through the lenses and projects a lace pattern onto the white fabric inside.


At the end of the ceremony when the groom lifts the bride’s veil for the legendary kiss the ‘steel veil’ magically opens too, revealing the pond and the enchanting nature beyond.
